JENNIFER KOH & REIKO UCHIDA String Poetic (Cedille): There's a century of contemporary music here, gorgeously shaped and energetically rendered by young New Yorkers, violinist Jennifer Koh and frequent piano collaborator Reiko Uchida. Anyone afraid of new music should suspend disenchantment and listen to these 14 mesmerizing, all-American tracks by Carl Ruggles (1876-1971), Lou Harrison (1917-2003), John Adams and Jennifer Higdon. Top track: The sensually charged "Nocturne" in a world-premiere recording of Higdon's String Poetic, from 2006.
